Pictures of Me
Welcome to my virtual space!
Vernitra’s Notes is a personal blog where I relish and reflect on my favorite things: reading, writing, learning, and creating. I capture moments in time and write about my hobbies and everyday life. Whether I’m working my way through my reading list, practicing viola and piano, learning how to sew and quilt, cultivating my cooking and baking skills, enjoying nature, or working toward a personal fitness goal, I enjoy writing notes and taking snapshots along the way. In addition to my miscellaneous musings, I share the books, movies, music, and media that captivate me. I also share content relating to Catholic Christian faith.
My favorite form of self-expression is writing—reveling in words, piecing together sentences, trying to tell a story. I blog to express my thoughts, to chronicle memorable moments, and for the pleasure and therapeutic benefits of writing. I enjoy writing notes about various learning journeys. Writing about my progress helps me to savor the process, appreciate small victories, and realize the beauty of the journey.
In a noisy, hectic world, this site is a calm, cozy space where I can delight in my favorite things. When I’m not working as a librarian or studying as a counseling graduate student, I love to immerse myself in my favorite activities and blog about them. If my content is of interest to another, then I am grateful. I’m glad you stopped by, and I hope you find something you like or can relate to.

I was born in the 1980s and grew up in Houston, Texas. I was blessed to be raised by loving parents. As a child, I loved books, had a vivid imagination, and was always finding ways to express my creativity—none of which has changed!
I have a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in library science. After college I worked as an MTV intern in New York City and later briefly as a Hollywood production assistant. I have also worked as an elementary-school teacher in Houston and as a public children’s librarian in Houston and New York City. I currently work as a public adult services librarian in the Houston area. I am also back in graduate school, pursuing a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling.
In the spring of my senior year in college, I taught myself basic HTML and built my first website from scratch. (And it definitely had that “from scratch” look!) Years later, in 2009, I created my first blog, on the Blogger platform. In 2012, I started blogging on WordPress.com. Throughout the years, my blog has taken on different names and looks, but my content has pretty much remained the same: books, hobbies, and things that entertain and inspire me.
Let’s see, what else can I tell you about me? I enjoy humor, and I try to find it wherever I can. I am a Catholic Christian. I came into the Church in my 30s, and I am grateful for God’s love, grace, and mercy and for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Though we all struggle in this world, I am grateful that each day God graces us with the ability to grow in faith and work toward living a more Christ-centered and inspired life.
I live in the Houston area, and when I’m not working or studying, I enjoy immersing myself in my hobbies and spending time with those closest to me. I love writing and expressing my creativity, and one of my favorite pastimes is creating content for this blog.
